Hmmm….ever since I did that six day green juice fast, it seems I cannot go a single day without at least 16 ounces of green juice. It’s become routine now to juice every other night so it’s not so bad I suppose. I’m thinking I need to juice 3 or 4 bottles instead of 2 those nights though so I could have more juice in the evenings if I wanted to.
Today I got to make one of my favorite green smoothies. Whenever I drink it, I’m reminded of the first month-long detox I did at Karyn’s after moving to Chicago. Here it is:
(Based off of Karyn’s drink called “The Morning Cleanser”)
1 apple
1 frozen banana
2 scoops green powder (I use Healthforce Nutritionals Vitamineral Green)
1 tablespoon flax oil
1 tablespoon coconut oil (flax and coconut work very well together to create usable omega 3s in your body. Some goes for marine phytoplankton and coconut oil)
2 tablespoon soy lecithin
1 tablespoon maca
½ Aloe Vera leaf
8 oz Rejuvelac (can use tea or water or coconut water too but Rejuvelac is really easy to make yourself and costs pennies)
This kept me full all morning long. I didn’t eat until 2pm! It feels so cleansing too. I haven’t been using much salad dressing on my salads lately so it was an easy way to get my oils in (I’ve had a ton of avocados lately so I’m trying to use those as my dressing).
It seems like detoxing is on everyone’s mind this year. There are so many websites out there though, it’s really crazy. How are people supposed to choose a quality kit or company?
Here are several things I’d look for.
1. All raw, organic ingredients.
2. A progressive protocol (it really needs to stress the intake of substantially less (or no) solid foods, especially for the 2nd half of the detox. You want more coming out than what’s coming in!
3. Feedback from friends and/or family who have done the detox before.
4. Cheap fillers such as lecithin, apple pectin, apple fiber, brown rice germ, etc. If there are any, they should be listed near the end of the ingredient list (meaning that there isn’t a lot in comparison to the other ingredients.)
5. A good, informative website (more information than testimonials, that’s for sure)
6. Gimmicky websites that come up first when you Google “Detox.” They probably paid big bucks to get that sort of ranking and they’re going to pass that cost onto you (you’ll think that because it costs that much it must by a high quality detox).
Personally, my favorite company is Blessed Herbs, but I plan on trying Ejuva sometime in 2009. Check out those companies first to learn what to look for in a quality detox program. Another good one is Arise and Shine, however, that program is a lot harsher and the herbs are a lot stronger. Take that one if you are pretty clean already and if you know you’re body can handle it. I am a Blessed Herbs affiliate because I believe in their products so much. SOOO…if you do decide to do a B.H. cleanse and would like to support me, please click on the Blessed Herbs link above. Thank you ;)
Happy Detoxing!
