dscn1067.jpg<–neat picture of Chicago after leaving it for Cali.

After I got back from all of my traveling this holiday I decided to do a semi-long juice fast.  It just felt right.  I’m on day six today and it’s been surprisingly easy.  I was planning on going seven days since I’ve done five days before but I think I’m going to break my fast in about three hours when I get home.  I can’t wait.  The hunger pangs have come on pretty strong today and it’s been a bit hard to ignore them.

It was pretty cold in Chicago when my friends and I got back from New York (about 15 degrees Fahrenheit) but the juices I’ve been making have been keeping pretty me pretty nourished and warm.  Lots of lemon and ginger is the key!  Burdock root is a favorite as well :)  I’m looking forward to starting the year out nice and clean now.  I have a bunch of soaked prunes in my fridge calling my name…

With all of the spare time and energy I’ve had I decided to replenish my cracker and dehydrated snack supply.  I try not to eat too many dehydrated foods but they do come in pretty darn handy when you’re going out to eat or when you’re out and about in the city all weekend long.  They’re also my favorite way to get my omega 3 fats in via flax seeds.  Here’s my favorite flax cracker recipe.  It’s my very own too!  They are fantastic and always a hit at any potluck or dinner I bring them to.  I plan on selling these at my green smoothie juice bar opening next year called “the Green Crush”!  (I’ve been working on this intensely during my fast as well!)

Lenette’s Sweet and Cheezy Crackers

1 cup soaked sunflower seeds

½ cup soaked sesame seeds

½ cup soaked pumpkin seeds

1 cup ground flax seeds

1 tablespoon Celtic sea salt

2 tablespoons Italian seasoning

1 large bell pepper (any color but green)

¼ cup soaked raisins with the ¼ cup soak water

1 ½ cups water

Process all together in the food processor and then spread out thick on teflex sheets.  Dehydrate for 24-36 hours in the dehydrator, flipping every 12 hours or so.

I don’t know if any of you know about the powerful qualities of garlic–kills of bacteria, fungus, virus, etc–but I was thinking about this yesterday and thought I’d try drinking some garlic juice before going to bed.  Never again!  I don’t think I’ve ever felt so sick.  It really burned going down and I would really caution anyone who’d like to try this.  At least not 2 bulbs worth.  It only filled up ¾ of a shot glass so I didn’t think it was that much but it was POWERFUL stuff.  Maybe I had some things in my body to kill off or maybe I put myself through more pain than necessary but hopefully it was worth it all.  Just a tip for you all.  I think I’m done with garlic juice from now on though.  I couldn’t even clean my juicer last night–the smell made me too nauseous.

Interesting quote from the Abe website today on illness I’d love to share with you all:

If you get a diagnosis that is not what you want to hear, the tendency is to say, “Oh, my god! How did I get so far away from something I want so much?” And we say, it isn’t big like that at all — it’s just a series of little things. It is the, “I could choose this thought which feels good, or this thought which doesn’t feel so good. But I’ve developed a pattern for what doesn’t feel good. And so, it is the daily dose of not being in the receiving mode that keeps me not in the receiving mode.” And that’s all that it is! — Abraham

And one more…I just can’t help myself!!  It feels so good to share this kind of info with others:

You cannot judge the value of a life by its quantity. It is by the joy that you are feeling. The more joyful you are, the longer you live. Let yourself relax and breathe and be free and be joyous, and romp. The optimum physical life experience is to have plenty of things that stimulate you to desire, and an awareness of the way you feel, so you’re reaching for thoughts that feel good–so you’re wide open, so you’re tuned in, tapped in, and turned on. We promise you, the timing of your death is always chosen by you. Chicago, IL — 9/7/02 — Abraham

Enjoy the evening,

Lenette
